Melbourne mash-up darlings RACHEL BY THE STREAM combine live looping and multi-instrumentalism to present a fresh and eclectic fusion of dub grooves, folk sensibilities and r’n’b flavours; where soulful sweet melody meets a thumping bottom end. Comprised of British-born loop artist Rachel Clutterbuck and Melbourne MC / Producer Mattriks, RACHEL BY THE STREAM emerged in Feb 2013 armed with debut EP 'Smooth Like Butter' and a stellar live act showcasing synchronised looping and a fun and colourful presentation of genre-bending new music: ”a totally distinctive talent” (Publicist, Obese Records). The Australian leg of the 'Smooth Like Butter' tour saw RACHEL BY THE STREAM move dance-floors and delight audiences across Melbourne, New South Wales and Queensland with their high vibes and unique skill-set before bringing their dubby electro-pop stylings to the European summer. The act made their UK debut at Glastonbury Festival this year with a tour continuing to London, Bristol and other major cities.
Along with touring both hemispheres, the pair have been busy shooting a film clip for swing inspired EP track 'That's For Sure' (due out September 2013) and writing material for a forthcoming album with a single release and tour planned for early 2014. Rachel and Mattriks have been overwhelmed by the positive response to their EP and the ever-increasing fan base their music continues to generate on opposite continents. The duo have enjoyed regular radio rotation: being favourited by TripleJ's Sarah Howe, ABC Melbourne presenter Lindy Burns and the BBC's Andrew Marston.
As well as a cutting edge approach to music making, RACHEL BY THE STREAM exhibit sophisticated referencing of a wide range of musical genres. This is dance-friendly, intelligent music at its best: appealing to a broad demographic and sounding just as good on a sunny afternoon in the park as it does in the club. Lyrically driven by intellectual curiosity; this is pop music for the discerning and informed listener. RBTS is a band that appear to know what's happening next and they're pushing the buttons to make it happen!
